This magic dress is another clever style, designed to minimise textile waste, by Wasteless Kiwi. This Diamond Dress-MIDI length has been created as primarily one length of fabric that folds simply and joins, to flow over the body with ease. The MIDI is a longer version of our original Diamond Dress, the fit is relaxed and elegant, it can be worn as an everyday dress, layered winter treat or dress it up for any occasion. The pattern was originally tested with viscose georgette, which provides the perfect weight and drape for this very versatile style. New to sewing? Pattern PDF: Wasteless Kiwi Sewing Pattern PDFs are available immediately as a digital PDF attachment. The digital download link for your PDF is delivered directly by email along with instructions for printing at home. Please remember to provide your email at checkout.
Printed Option: Or select our Printed Option and we'll print your pattern, in colour, on wide format paper and package and ship to your address. We use 135gsm paper which is considerably sturdier than most photocopy paper, so you can use it over and over again and best of all NO taping required. The Sewing Guide will be available as digital download link and is delivered directly by email along with instructions for printing the guide at home.
What's included with the PDF: The Diamond Dress-MIDI Pattern PDF has been drafted in full-size and can be printed as large format: as 3x A0 sheets; or tiled as 42x A4 sheets. This Pattern contains 2 Styles: A + B, where A is the original Origami pattern and Style B features a central Diamond panel. Owing to the sheer brilliance and simplicity of this designer dress, we have also provided a "Dimension Drawing" along with a "Sectional Detail PDF" that provides you with the option to hand draft the pattern in full scale on your own paper. And it comes with a scaled down A4 version (Origami Practice) that provides a tactile opportunity to visualise the Origami folds within a 3-dimensional Maquette to assist you as you cut & sew your own Diamond Dress.
This Pattern is available as One Size which fits comfortably over a wide range of body shapes. The hem line, which needs to slide over the hip, is the main size restriction: the maximum circumference of the hem is 116 - 118cm depending on the "give" in your fabric.
Suitable fabric options for the Diamond Dress-MIDI include fabrics with good drape and ability to flow and mould to the body. Common weave types that drape well include crepe, satin, twill and loosely woven plain weave:
Georgette, crepe, satin, sateen, chiffon, voile, lawn, batiste, muslin, challis. Fabrics with a crisper handle will be less fluid over the body and will tend to create their own shape.
